James Baldwin and His Wisdom

James Baldwin (August 2, 1924-December 1, 1987), was a writer, activist, and intellectual.

Baldwin wrote and spoke about his experiences and his perspective on societal situations. His words were potent and effortless. When he spoke he grabbed the audience with one word, kept them latched until he finished, yet impacted them even after he was done.

James Baldwin is my inspiration.

Here are a collection of his quotes and speeches:

“The paradox of education is precisely this – that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”

-“The world is before you and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in.”

-“The power of the white world is threatened whenever a black man refuses to accept the white world’s definitions.”

-“Everybody’s journey is individual. If you fall in love with a boy, you fall in love with a boy. The fact that many Americans consider it a disease says more about them than it does about homosexuality.”

-β€œThe precise role of the artist, then, is to illuminate that darkness, blaze roads through vast forests, so that we will not, in all our doing, lose sight of its purpose, which is, after all, to make the world a more human dwelling place.”
