The Lady Jaguars basketball team traveled to Wise High School to take on Gwynn Park in the PG County Championship game! Before tip-off both teams were presented with their division championship trophies for finishing first place in their respective leagues. The Jaguars flexed their dominance throughout the entire game. The Jaguars came out victorious with a score of 68-59! The Jaguars were led by the 5’10 Junior Guard Kaniyah Harris. She scored 24 points in a dominant performance and was named MVP for her efforts! I was able to speak with Kaniyah about her and her teams’ performance :
Terrence: “How do you feel about your performance personally ?”
Kaniyah: “In the first half, I didn’t feel like myself. I didn’t feel like I was doing enough on the court. The second half I came out there and just played. I wasn’t thinking about my points or fouls or anything and when I did that is when my game took a turning point and I felt like I played a good game.
Terrence: “How do you feel about your team’s performance?”
Kaniyah: “Team wise I think the girls didn’t feel like themselves either, but after a talk we had about going on to the next I think they stepped it up and were able to play a good game as well. I’m really proud of them for stepping up when it was needed.”
Terrence: “Now that you are county champs, what is it going to take to get to the next level and win states?”
Kaniyah: “Now that we are County champs, we just have to keep our head and stay focused on winning these next five games and winning states. We need to focus on execution.”
Terrence: “There is a lot of people talking about how you are one of the top players in the county and even the state in the class of 2020. Do you believe you are one of the best players in 2020?
Kaniyah: “I do believe I am one of the top players in the state in the class of 2020 and I mean that in the most humble and honest way possible.”
Congratulations to Kaniyah and the entire Lady Jaguars basketball team! Good luck on your Road to States! Go Jags!
