Lady Jags Dominate Wise! Advance to Regional Championship!

The Lady Jaguars Girls Basketball team is on a roll! They hosted the Wise Pumas in the 3rd round of the MPSSA Playoffs, on March 7th! The Lady Jags played a complete game from start to finish and were able to pull away dominantly in the fourth quarter. The Lady Jags won by a score of 70-55! They improve to 21-2 on their excellent season. The Lady Jags were led by Junior Kaniyah Harris with 27 points and Senior Jasmine Hilton with 21 points! I asked both standout athletes about their performances:

Terrence: “How did you feel about your performance tonight?”

Jasmine: “There were things that I could’ve done differently, but I’m beyond happy and I feel good with just not how I played but definitely how the whole team played. Playing against a really good team like Wise takes a lot, but I’m grateful with how things turned out.”

Terrence: “What do you and your team have to do to keep this hot streak?

Kaniyah: “We have to continue to execute on our free throws and layups and not take anyone for granted in order to continue our hot streak.”

Terrence: “Being that you’re two games away from the state championship, is the mentality of the team championship or bust?”

Kaniyah: “The mentality of the team is to keep going. We didn’t get up and go on the track at 6 am in August just to come to this far and stop. We have to keep pushing until that final buzzer . No days off!”

Jasmine: “Ever since I’ve been to Flowers, we’ve never gotten this far. So being County Champs and possibly State Champs is mind blowing. We are so close to being from states, and our mentality at this point is to just keep continuing playing our hearts out, never take things for granted, and to represent what Flowers is really about.”

Congratulations to Kaniyah and Jasmine and the entire Lady Jags Basketball team on a great game! The Lady Jags will take on Laurel in the regional championship at Flowers! Tip off will be 6pm! Go Jags!
