Here’s What You Missed About the Honor Roll Assembly

December 23rd marked the day of the very first Virtual Honor Roll Assembly here at Charles Herbert Flowers High School. Two YouTube links were sent via students’ emails where students could find the assemblies based on their graduating class.

The 2023 and 2024 class assembly was hosted by Naveah Hampton, a sophomore here at CHFHS. Brielle Bertrand showcased her outstanding talent by singing our national anthem to get the assembly started. This was followed by a few greetings from or principal, Dr. Gorman Brown. Dr. Brown shared his congratulations to each and every student while encouraging other students to strive for these achievements as well. He informed the audience that there was an outstanding 1371 students who made the honor roll at our school. That is 59.2% of our school’s population.

After a few words from our newly elected School Board of Education member, Shayla Adams, the Class of 2024 Assistant Principal, Mrs. Silva, and a Class of 2024 sponsor, Ms.LS, the amazing 359 Honor Roll recipients were presented. Each student’s name was listed on the screen with a digital Honor Roll certificate, similar to the ones presented at our in-person assemblies.

The Class of 2023 was then congratulated by the Class of 2023 Assistant Principal, Mr. Miller, and Coach Carter, a Class of 2023 Sponsor. This was then followed by the presentation of honorees for the Honor Roll.

There was an outstanding CHF Poms and CHF Dance team performance to convey the message “Black is Power” after the 23’ presentation.

With a few more words from Dr. Brown informed the watchers that there were remarkable 648 students with the Principal’s Honor Roll. Jada Lafinmakin was congratulated for being the highest achieving Freshman with a GPA of 4.4375. Nathaniel Akintola, Chidera Anagabogu, and Christian Arevalo were the highest achieving Sophomores with a GPA of 4.4375 as well. Grace Aboagye, Jasmine Emeruwa, Maxine Emeruwa, and Jessica Ugbaja were the highest achieving Juniors scoring a GPA of 4.8125.

Oluwapelumi Adesiyan, Nanette Amihere, Staci Braddock, Sydney Brutus, Unity Dill, Jean Emtcheu, Naomi Ini-Akpan, and Shamiyah Stevens-Charles were the 8 phenomenal Seniors who scored the highest GPA of 5.0.

This was an amazing assembly and an amazing effort by the CHFHS team to make virtual learning still feel like students are getting the high school experience they deserve. Let’s continue to practice safe COVID measures so that we can all safely return to school and get this experience in person again.
