February 9, 2011
The service started off with the presentation of colors and the “Star Spangled Banner” sung by students Elizabeth Duncan and Maya Russell. The crowd was blown away with their amazing voices.
African American Studies Teacher and Instructional Coordinator, Mrs. Aarons, read the Occasion.
“Dr. Flowers was a man of action, integrity, and faith, and he believed in education,” said Aarons. “I can imagine he heard the words, well done my good and faithful servant. You’ve been faithful over few, I will make you ruler over many.”
The TV Production class, Mrs. Tara Jones, and Mr. Paul Jones, then showed a video tribute to Dr. Flowers. The video included a biography of Dr. Flowers, interviews with him, interviews of staff about Dr. Flowers, and other occasions he was present at during the last ten years.
The video tribute was followed by a musical tribute by CHFHS String Ensemble led by teacher, Mr. William Lloyd. They played “Theme from Canon in D” by Johanna Pachelbel. There were several other musical tributes throughout the program presented by the Jazz Ensemble and the CHFHS Choir.
Member of the Student Government Association, Jessie Huff, presented the student tribute. He reminisced on the first time he met Dr. Flowers at a football game. He talked about the two of them exchanging greetings and chatting, while enjoying the game.
Faculty and staff, alumni, parents, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, CHFHS Pom Poms, PGC Office of the Sherriff, PGCPS, and Principal Mrs. Nobles-Jones, also gave special tribute to honor such a great man.
Before the service was over, Mrs. Nobles-Jones presented the Flowers family with a plaque that had a picture of Dr. Flowers and the words of the alma mater inscribed on it. She also gave each family member that was present a medal and a DVD from TV Production that include the full length video tribute.
The service ended with students, staff, parents, and guests singing the alma mater.
