On September 20, 2017, Puerto Rico was hit by a very serious hurricane known as Hurricane Maria. This hurricane caused a lot of widespread destruction and disorganization. It has been almost two weeks since the storm hit, and most of the island’s residents still lack access to necessities such as electricity and clean water.  This hurricane is the strongest storm to make landfall in Puerto Rico in 85 years. It came ashore with sustained winds of 155 mph, knocking out power to the entire island. Trees were uprooted, homes were destroyed, and there was also widespread flooding.
Hurricane Maria really took a toll on the lives of those that live in Puerto Rico. According to the New York Times, at least six people died in the storm, and the repercussions are still ongoing. It will take a long time for everything to get back to normal.
