Emancipation is the state of being free from whatever captivity/ bondage we are in. Slaves dwelled on the idea of being free. They thought about the things they would do when they were free. Their definition of being free was not having to listen to the white man or having to follow their rules, and being able to provide for themselves. But when they gained freedom it was not a bed of roses. The newly freed slaves had few belongings and not many had adequate education. They were poor, and some still had to work for the white man for mere chump change.
” We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free our minds.”- Marcus Garvey.
Are we mentally free? Think about it. Our minds are captured by the things we see on social media. We may not be aware of it, but our minds are programmed by society. Society alters who we think a good citizen should be and how they behave. Dig deep and free your minds, think independently and be your own person. William Lynch programmed his slaves to never emancipate their minds, years later it is still happening.
