Journalism Motivational Visit

Zion Williams

On October 16, 2017, Samuel Shokera visited Ms.Whitworth’s 4A journalism class to give a speech about getting to know yourself. Shokera attended Duval High School and graduated in 2005. After high school, he went to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and was able to try different things. He graduated in 2010 and earned his bachelor’s degree in hotel management. He explained to our class that being true to yourself and who you are is important.
Important quotes from Shokera’s speech:

  • You’re going to learn from your mistakes.
  • Your mindset determines whether you make it or not.
  • Life will not be easy, you have to challenge yourself.
  • You must surround yourself with like-minded people because they will help and encourage you.
  • Take time and say hello to a stranger because they could turn into lifetime friends and ¬†friendship goes beyond blood and money.
  • Stay true to yourself, find your purpose in life, and always challenge yourself for the better.
