Pilgrimage by
Joseph Ortiz Jr.

“Teaching is only demonstrating that it is possible. Learning is making it possible for yourself.” – Paulo Coelho
A pilgrimage can be seen as a journey to a holy place and an unusual place. The journey to a holy place is self explanatory, you can’t get any more in depth unless you reflect on the reason why. You can go to a holy place in order to respect your religion or you can do it as a self-reflecting journey. A journey to an unusual place is full of interpretation opportunities. The unusual place can literally be anything you can imagine. The unusual place also doesn’t have to be something of material, it can be something of mental value. The quote by Paulo Coelho is very valid. Learning something new can be seen as a pilgrimage because you are taking a journey to an unusual place to learn what is there. This unusual place is home of the subject and topic that you wish to learn from. Teaching something to someone is showing them that they are capable of completing a specific task. Learning something on your own shows yourself that you are capable of completing a specific task. A pilgrimage to a holy place can be seen as a good and peaceful deed but it is capable of being the exact opposite. The European pilgrims that came to the Americas eventually led to the massacre of the natives and the Crusades were also seen as an armed pilgrimage filled with violence.
