Earning your own money gives you a sense of independence and financial responsibility. Many students at Flowers High School have started to earn their own money by working part-time jobs after school. Some popular workplaces that employ Flower’s students include Wegmans, Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, Mcdonald’s, Party City and beauty4u.
Though the path to earning your own money or getting a part-time job isn’t always as easy one may think. Some stores have age restrictions, with people ages 18 and under requiring work permit and others are rarely hiring because employees of a lack of positions or preference for older employees.
Some other issues students face when pursuing to work part time are transportation, keeping their grades up, and schedule conflicts. One CHFHS Senior, Lyric Adelekun works at Chick-Fil-A and commented “I have half a day so I’m supposed to work. But since I’m a senior there are a lot of things I want to do at school that sometimes my work schedule keeps me from being able to do.” In the end, work while fulfilling has its downsides.
