VR at LaxCon 2018

Manuel A. Morillo

LaxCon is a yearly sports convention dedicated solely to the sport of lacrosse. It is the largest educational event and trade show in the game of lacrosse. This year LaxCon was held in Baltimore, MD from January 19 – 21, 2018 where thousands of players, enthusiasts, and fans of the sport came together to enjoy a myriad of lacrosse events, newly released gear, and training sessions. The most interesting of which was a virtual reality (VR) training tool created for goalies. The software allows the user to use an Oculus Rift headset, to practice lacrosse goalie skills using various types and velocities of shots, on-demand, without the need for a real dedicated shooter, and measure their performance using built-in performance tracking. The product, entitled Virtual Goalie, will be available soon at www.virtualgoalie.com, at a cost of $29.99 USD per player per month and will hopefully expand into different sports soon. If you are interested try it out!
