Historically black colleges and universities are institutions of high education in the US. There are now 101 HBCUs in the United States, including public and private institutions. Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and Lincoln University were established for blacks before the american Civil War. Shaw University was the first HBCU in the south to be established after the American Civil War. Some educational institutions in the North or West were open to blacks before the Civil War.
The top 10 HBCU schools in order are Spelman College, Xavier University of Louisana, North Carolina A&T State University, Howard University, Florida A&M University, Morehouse College, Tuskegee University, Jackson State University, Winston- Salem State University and Grambling State University. These are great schools, and you have to have a great GPA and SAT score to attend them.
