It truly is madness this March as the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments began last week. In the Men’s tournament, an unprecedented upset of No.1 seed University of Virginia by No.16 seed University of Maryland-Baltimore County was a highlight of this week’s action. Other notable upsets were No.13 Buffalo defeating No.4 Arizona 89-68, No.13 Marshall’s dismantling of No.4 Wichita St. 81-75, No.9 Florida State University taking out No.1 Xavier 75-70, No.7 Texas A&M knocked out reigning champions University of North Carolina 86-65, and the miracle runs Loyola Chicago defeating Miami and TennesseeĀ to reach the Sweet Sixteen as well as Syracuse’s journey from the First Four to the Sweet Sixteen taking out a heavy favorite Michigan State. In the Women’s bracket, upsets include Buffalo over South Florida 102-79, Virginia beat California 68-62, Central Michigan defeated LSU 78-69, Minnesota prevailed over Green Bay 89-77, and Florida Gulf Coast over Missouri 80-70. Brackets everywhere were discarded in the first rounds of competition, and it is definitely the year of the (under)Dog. Sweet Sixteen games resume on March 22, watch out for Duke’s matchup with Syracuse, Michigan and Texas A&M, and 2016 Champions Villanova against West Virginia University. In women’s basketball, UConn looks to further their dominant streak. The Women’s National Championship game is on April 1st, the Men’s National Championship game is on the 2nd.
