Gun Control

Do guns make society safer? The regulations made by the authority for gun control brings fear for the safety of our country. The Second Amendment was not intended to protect the right of individuals to own guns, but to protect the right of militias to own guns. Too many lives has been destroyed due to guns. How many more lives needs to be destroyed before we can take control of guns?  Guns are a danger to society, the more gun control leads to fewer suicides, and the presence of a gun is what makes a conflict more likely to become violent.
Guns are a danger to society.  They do not make society safer, instead they are used for committing crimes, murders, self-harm, and to make our environments less safer. According to to ProCon.ORG, “Countries with restrictive gun control laws have lower gun homicide and suicide rates than the United States.” The homicide rates for guns are the only category of violence that has not decreased in the United States. The large capacity of guns must be reduced to reduce the enormous number of deaths. There is so much congress can do to ensure that the laws for guns becomes stricter. Democrats have been trying to push gun control measures in Congress but their chances are so far the same. There haven’t been any progress. According to Center for Responsive Politics, “In June 2016, Democrats mounted a successful filibuster that forced Senate Republicans to vote on four gun control proposals- none of which was passed.” We need to take a stand and do something for our safety before every member of society is gun down.
The more gun control leads to fewer suicides. “The data show that having a gun available in the home or workplace make those attempts at self-harm far more likely to succeed.” With the ownership of guns, the regulations for guns will continue as a difficult issue for the U.S. and it government. The number of gun-related suicide is very high. The control for guns is as old as the United States, and it is one of the most divisive issues in American politics. It is essential to address firearm suicide to reduce both gun violence and suicide in this country. According to Psychiatry MMC, “Gun-related suicide in America accounts for most of the violent death occurrences. This high suicide rate is shockingly under appreciated.”
The presence of a gun is what makes a conflict more likely to become violent. According to  ALL THE RAGE THE SCIENCE OF ANGER AND VIOLENCE, “Possessing a gun increases the chance of dying in a gun related assault.” “When people are angry, they are more likely to think a neutral object is a gun.” The manufacturing and sales of firearms influence and impact our economy dramatically. Guns are weapons that permit violence, increases aggression and stimulate it as well. The worst part of it all is that the federal system does not provide a minimum age for the possession of long guns or long gun ammu nition. “The United States has 120.5 guns per 100 people, or about 393,347, 000 guns, which is the highest total and per capital number in the world.” Firearms play a great role in violence and do not keep people safe.
Opponents argues that gun control violates the Second Amendment, and guns are needed for self-defense and protection. What protections are we getting if thousands lose their lives to this dangerous weapon? The same chain of events unfolds, every time a mass shooting occurs: some people talk about the reasons why we need gun control. While some people like Donald Trump continues to argue that guns should not be banned or repealed. They say guns don’t kill people, people kill people. They are failing to know that people will not use those guns to kill each other if they are not in possession of them. If total control is put on guns, we will not have to worry too much about people getting involved in crimes, suicide, murders, etc. Even police officers abuse these weapons. Guns are too widespread to be banned, but we can control them. Controlling guns will be more effective than trying to totally banned them. According to Eliot Spitzer, “Yes, people pull the trigger- but guns are instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror.”
Our lawmakers can act on the law for gun control. I know banning guns will not reduce the overall gun deaths, but it will reduce the massive amount of shootings. If our government leaders can focus on reducing the large capacity of guns then there would not be as much deaths from guns. The lives of people are in danger as long as guns are in possessions of people. We need to do something, too many innocent lives have been destroyed. We can’t just sit and fold our hands as if nothing is wrong. We must fight for guns to be repealed and save society and its people.
