I believe what Douglass said; literacy can take you anywhere. What people can’t take from you is your mind. They can try and take everything else but they can’t strip your knowledge. Reading is used everywhere and in every way. I’m glad I can read pretty well because I know I can go far wherever I go. My parents are always so hard on me when it comes to school because they said I have to work twice as hard. I believe them because in this world, the most disrespected person is the black woman.
