On The Road To Victory

Last season our Lady Jags basketball team ended their season with record of  20-3. With two returning starters and Coach Frazier in her 13th year of coaching, they are ready to go  for an undefeated season, and so far they are off to a great start.  On Dec. 5,  the Lady Jags, both JV and Varsity, kicked off thier basketball season with a win against the Duval Tigers. The final score for JV was 36-15 and Varsity 69-25.

New member to the varsity team Nicole Derrickson, was noticed by the Gazette for scoring the most points in the game,  a total of 14. De’Janae Boykins, also new to the team, followed up with 13 points, and returning starter Kyah Proctor with 12.

“The girls did exceptionally well. This was a good way for them to start off their season,” said junior Arrington Kemp.

“I really enjoyed the game. The girls gave no mercy and maintained their energy to the final seconds,” said senior Resiah Patterson.

The team did a good job of wearing out Duvals starters Destinee McQueen and Milan Williams who were heavily relied on by their team during the game and also put the most points in for the Duval Tigers.

“They did really good with teamwork and resulted in a blow-out game. Hopefully the rest of their season continues as it started,” said senior Andres Guzman.

So far so good as the Lady Jags, both JV and Varsity, have continued to build their winning record to 2-0 in another win against Parkdale Panthers on December 11. The Varsity girls’ final score was 77-33. To see the season schedule, visit
