A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly using a remote-controlled car to smuggle methamphetamine across the U.S.-Mexico border. 
On Sunday, November 17, at around 12:30 A.M., Border Patrol agents spotted a suspicious individual walking along the secondary border with two duffel bags. The teen was found hiding in a thick brush.
Authorities recovered a remote-controlled car and two large duffel bags containing 50 packages of meth with a street value of $106,096. 
Agents believe that it must have taken multiple trips across the border to have been able to transport the large amounts of meth the teen had in possession. 
The teen was discovered to be a U.S. citizen and is facing drug trafficking charges, the federal agency said.
“I am extremely proud of the agents’ heightened vigilance and hard work in stopping this unusual smuggling scheme,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison.
A similar scheme occurred in 2017 which involved a 26-year-old man and a remote-controlled drone. The man used the drone to smuggle 13 pounds of meth into the United States through the border. 
Jorge Edwin Rivera spoke to authorities and stated that he planned to deliver the drugs to an accomplice at a gas station in San Diego. 
Border Patrol agents spotted a drone 2,000 yards away from the border and found the man hidden in a bush. 
Another instance of drone deliveries involving drugs occurred in 2015 when two individuals pleaded guilty to dropping 28 pounds of meth into California using a drone. 
It seems using remote-controlled vehicles are not the best way to transport drugs into the U.S.
