Homework Policy Change

Prince George’s County Public Schools have begun paying attention to the effects of excessive homework on students. Currently, there is a debate on whether teachers should continue giving it out. The county is reviewing guidelines and planning to change policies for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
Teachers allot so much homework when it’s only worth 10% of each student’s overall grade. From recent surveys, students feel that it is unfair for them to do all of the work when it barely boosts their grades, but can harm their grade at the same time.
Athletes also struggle with completing assignments with their busy schedules. They are already overwhelmed with practice and workouts and often times have a dilemma between school and sports.  Homework is becoming another cause of stress for many students. Having less homework or none at all would be very beneficial to all students, especially athletes.
