Christopher Berak, a 24-year-old Michigan resident was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Overall.
The incident occurred in southeastern Michigan in 2017 when Berak was evading police on a car chase. Berak purposefully hit the deputy while he was deploying “stop sticks” to deflate Berak’s tires.
Eventually, Berak’s car rolled over and he was immediately arrested. Berak argued during his defense that he had no intention of striking the deputy. While in Lapeer County Jail, he told authorities that he was “God” and came to break out one of his “sons.”
“I’m sorry for what I did. I hope that they’re all doing OK,” Berak stated before he was sentenced on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
“He was a man of honor and integrity,” Overall’s wife, Sonya, wrote, “On and off duty, he always strived to do the right thing.”
