Nowadays African-Americans dominate in major sports like football, baseball, basketball and etc., but it was never like that in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. White athletes and managers decided to ban African-Americans from professional sports due to the fact that believed that black athlete were low in intelligence and also that they were criminals.
Segregation in sports changed after World War 2 when Jackie Robinson was signed in 1946 and became the first African-American to play in professional baseball with the New York Yankee, this marked the integration of professional sports.
In the twenty-first century many African-American athletes have redefined the world of sport. Athletes like Bo Jackson the first African-American to be named all-star in both professional football and baseball and Michael Jordan an athlete who has changed the world of sport with his amazing basketball skills and leaping ability.
Lately there are new breeds of African-American athletes that are still redefining the world of sports. Athletes like Robert Griffin III, Colin Kapernick and Cam Newton have redefined the quarterback position by incorporating running along with throwing the ball to defeat the opposing defense.
