Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12, 1815 in Johnstown, New York. Elizabeth’s father Daniel Cady was a slave owner, prominent attorney, congressmen, and judge. He exposed Elizabeth to the studies of law and the and male domains at a young age. Elizabeth graduated from johnstown academy at 16 but could not enroll into college due to her age instead she went to Troy Female Seminary. While at Troy she experienced preaches and talks about hellfire and damnation to a point where she could not handle it and later had a breakdown. In 1939 she moved to Peterboro, New York with her cousin Gerrit Smith. While she was there she met Henry Brewster Stanton and later married him in 1840.
