Why You Need to Become Familiar with the Kirwan Commission

Deven Garcia

The Kirwan Commission is a initiative to create better public school for the almost 800,000 students in Maryland. They hope to raise the quality of Maryland schools by increasing teacher salaries, funding education and vocational job training. After a recent survey, many Marylanders are in support of what the Kirwan Commission has in this reform, but many fell like funding for the new reform might be too much. Many complain that the taxes they currently pay to the state are way to high and fear this will increase state taxes even more, as the proposed cost for the Commissions proposal is half a billion.
