These Four Walls

Jocelyn Cruz

There are days where the sun shines

And days where the clouds are thick and gloomy.

But through it all, the four walls keep me company.

The four walls that never leave or say anything keep me inclosed day by day.

There are the days where the wind howls through the night

And days where the nights are quiet.

But through it all, the walls keep me company.

The walls that can’t hear when I complain

Or give me a hand for comfort.

They just stand there looking at me through their small eyes.

There are days where the rain roars through the night.

Where the thunder booms and frightens everyone,

But through it all, the walls keep me company.

The walls that can’t taste the bitterness of the world

Or can’t hear the screams of millions crying in pain.

The four walls that unfortunately are the key to my survival,

The four walls that keep me safe are like friends I never knew I needed

Through the rain, the splendor of the sun, or the gloomy hugs that the clouds give me

Nothing compares to the quiet and loneliness that the four walls bring me.
