Dismantling the Police force in Minneapolis

Minneapolis officials confirmed, as of last week, that they were considering disbanding the city police department. Minneapolis city council members have not specified what or who will replace the police department if it disbands. There are 13 members on the council and out of the 13 members, 9 of them have voted for it. The council has said they will dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety. On Saturday, June 6, 2020, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was booed by protesters because he refused to commit to defunding and abolishing the city’s police force.
