BOYS VARSITY

In the last regular season game of the season for the Jaguars, the team wanted to capture momentum heading into the postseason. When asked how important this finale was heading into the playoffs, Head Coach Mark Edwards said “Very important. There isn’t an off and off switch that we can use. We have to play playoff-type basketball before we get there. This could possibly be the last game here at Flowers for our seniors.”
The first half was highly contested. The atmosphere gave an exciting playoff feel. Each team traded bucket for bucket, back and forth, back and forth, even though great defense was being played. Senior guard Devin Shuler lead the way through the first half with 19 points. Shuler capped of the 1st half with an absolutely astonishing buzzer beater shot that sent the crowd into a frenzy…
Unfortunately, for most of the 3rd quarter, the Jaguars trailed and couldn’t seem to catch a break, though they cut the deficit to just one point to end the quarter.
The same began to occur in the final quarter of play as the Tigers at one point lead by 11, midway through the 4th quarter. The Jaguars just couldn’t compose any offensive flow. One of the main causes of the deficit was free throws. Duval guard Kevin Simpson finished with 31 points, more than half of those points came from made free throw attempts.
The Jags gained a little life near the end of the quarter, hitting three consecutive three-pointers to get themselves within five, but The Tigers held on for the 74-69 win, slightly halting the Jaguars momentum heading into postseason play.
