On Tuesday February 18, qualifiers of the boys and girls track team competed in the 3A/4A state championships. Both teams had a top 25 team ranking with the boys placing 19^th overall and the girls placing 21^st overall, tied with Howard, Montgomery Blair, and Springbook.
BOYS
Senior Martin Kangha had a 5^th place shot put finish with a distance of 46-09.50.
Senior Justin Bentham finished 13^th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.
Sophomore Brian Nelson finished 4^th in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.64.
Junior Damique Rose finished 7^th in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.40.
The boys 4×8 team of Justin Bentham, Cameron Burgess, Elijah Rashad, and Damein Rose finished 9^th.
The boys 4×4 team of Brian Nelson, Jason Brandon, Andrew Donaldson, and Cameron Burgess finished 14^th.
The boys 4×2 team of Brian Nelson, Andrew Donaldson, Maurice Wright, and Damique Rose finished 9^th.
GIRLS
Senior Imani Matthews finished 11^th in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:21.
Senior Imani Matthews finished 3^rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.
The girls 4×8 team of Alexis Baynes, Saahira Brown, Oluchi Ike, and Jameka Wiggins finished 8^th.
The girls 4×4 team of Saahira Brown, Alexis Baynes, Jameka Wiggins, and Imani Matthews finished 8^th.
