CHFHS Welcomes Dr. Maxwell
March 19, 2014
CEO Halfway Done With School Visit Initiative
On March 7, 2014, CHFHS became the 109th school to receive a visit from the CEO of Prince George’s County Public Schools, Dr. Kevin Maxwell.
The Prince George’s County native has made visiting every school in the county one of his major goals in his first year as CEO. Maxwell said he wants to see the “conditions” of each school and whether “the Common Core [Standard] is being taught.”
Dr. Maxwell has more than enough changes to implement. He hopes to raise academic outcomes and eliminate wait lists for popular programs. Changes have already begun with the Common Core State Standards that Dr. Maxwell already believes will “be great.”
Although, Dr. Maxwell was only at CHFHS for an hour, he made efficient use of his visit. He saw approximately eight classes including Ms. White’s AP Computer Science class, Mrs. Coelho- Tooley’s AP English Literature class, Ms. Jones’ TV Production class and Mrs. Tolentino’s Science and Technology 10th grade Chemistry class. He also had the opportunity to hear about the many changes occurring at CHFHS including the initiatives led by PBIS and the Academic Celebrations committees.
Dr. Maxwell will continue to visit schools for the remaining of the year.
