Are You Losing it or Not?

In an outstanding video production by the members of the club, Jaguar Voices releasing a video to close off the year 2020 and to look forward to 2021 called ‘Are You Losing it or Not?‘
They released it on Zora Neale Hurston‘s birthday, January 7. Zora was a black American author, anthropologist, and filmmaker, who they say inspired us to release this video. She portrayed racial struggles in the early-1900s and was a revolutionary in helping to protect the rights of African Americans. She was known for her leadership in the Harlem Renaissance.
Our Principal Dr. Brown actually had the chance to read one of her books “Their Eyes Were Watching God”, an essential reading at Howard, he said.
When our Principal watched the video he was in tears.

“That was truly outstanding.” “Excellent work guys! You make me proud to be your Principal!”

That comment was very appreciated by Jaguar Voices. It really meant a lot to them. So for this remark, I hope we see more from the members of Jaguar Voices in the future as they are running the @chfhsnews social media accounts now. Featuring students of the week, teacher of the month, post weekly music, movie, book, and show reviews/recommendations.

In the video, it recaps all the memorable moments in our tragic or most inspirational times with news clips of people dealing with the pandemic (COVID- 19), protest, political elections, forset fires, deaths, and distance learning.
This gives students a voice to express how they feel and felt being in 2020. The main question that contrast is the idea is surviving 2020 as a whole.

Distance Learning

What really impacted us and defined 2020 for teachers, parents, and students was distance learning. You can hear them and they struggle with distance learning.

“In 2020 I have learned that social distancing is not as easy as it sounds”
“Because I’m always home I didn’t feel like I was really doing anything. I wasn’t really engaged in the schoolwork”
“I do want to say that I was or still am a little stressed about all the work that we’re getting and the fact that there’s no interaction with teachers”

These are just some of the many challenges. Students have face being at in-home learning. Many more have countless technology issues or busy with parents and especially younger siblings. It is stressful being in quarantine and also being in online school for students and teachers. Normally, if we’re in school we would not have all these problems we are facing.

Downfalls of 2020

“This 2020 has been a bad year for pretty much everybody with the rise of coronavirus the killings of so many black people by the police and so many other things that happen this year like the death of Chadwick Boseman that this year is going to be remembered as one of the worst years in history”

As you can imagine, everyone pretty much has the same options about the year. They were a lot of negatives, many different from others, but they fall around the same thing. COVID-19.
As the virus infection rate increased, the opportunities people had been blocked off.  This had lead to more stress and more patience. More time wondering about yourself and what the future has to hold. It was scary for most, watching people get sick around you struggling to breathe.
Some students had talked about the family they lost during those times. They share their personal tragic story of what their experience was like.

“I got COVID myself and when I heard it, it really shocked me, but the another person in my family got COVID was my dad, and that shocked me the most because I just didn’t want to see that”

Inspiration

Even with all the negativities, we had endorsed. We survived the year 2020. We learned despite resistance. Despite pushback. We persisted. Together we had overcome what we thought was impossible.
The things that uplifted most people, surviving 2020 was finding new opportunities, new hobbies, new compassion. Staying focus on what you want to accomplish rather than worrying about what’s going on around you.
Teachers still look forward to teaching the wonderful students at this school. It’s not easy but we are all content, especially when students to their camera on for the teachers and see the young and beautiful faces of the so dearly miss.
Although 2020 was a crappy year, we hope you’ll make 2021 even better.

Jaguar Voices honors everyone who participated in the video. They were able to make this production because of them.
They hope all teachers, parents, and students start fresh this year, self-reflecting on themselves from the past and look forward to what 2021 has to offer.
This is a new year so, take this opportunity to better yourself. Starting strong and proud, hustling hard as Jaguar’s yourself using your abilities.
Hard work, Utilize Resources, Success-oriented, Tenacious, Leaders, Exceeding Expectations. That is what we do here at Chares Herbert Flowers High School, the “Mecca of Excellence”. This year prepare to be successful in 2021. We know you will.
