Picarindo Not Just Candy

Tamarind is a fruit

Zena Whitworth

On November 16, The Caribbean Culture Club had their first meeting and Junior Grace Ajayi, President, shared a snack from her native country of Trinidad.  Ajayi shared a well-known snack from Trinidad called Picarindo.  Picarindo is made from the fruit Tamarind which originated from Tropical Africa, Central America, and Mexico.  Picarindo is a spicy, salty, chili, sticky treat with a grainy texture like a chewy candy.

The Caribbean Culture Club is an opportunity for students from different cultures to share their own various foods, customs and traditions.

If you are interested in learning the ways of other cultures and customs then join the Caribbean Culture Club, holding meetings on Wednesdays from 2:45 p.m.-3:45 p.m. in Room 118.
