Sharon Madu, Editor: Saffiatu Johnson

“Blackout” is a hilarious, charming, and heartbreaking tale of love, discovery, and finding your own sense of self that follows the love lives of six different black teenage couples by Nicola Yoon, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, Nic Stone, Tiffany D. Jackson, and Dhonielle Clayton. It’s about connecting or reconnecting with past lovers, strangers, friends, and themselves during a blackout in New York.

It’s a short read that displays LGBTQ+ and black representation, black youth deserve to read about people who look like them finding love, whether it’s with someone else or themselves.
