I have a dream that I would love the American dream. Some may wonder and ask what that might be, I look at them and say I’m still trying to figure that part out. The American dream to most people outside of America may think of is getting a job, having a family, and being successful. But I don’t see it as that being the American dream. While living my entire life in America the American dream has changed. These are my dreams.

I have a dream that one day I will be able to see the day that I have a family. To be able to live within a world and a country where my existence isn’t a risk every time I wake. I have a dream that one day I’ll be able to not live in fear because of the color of the skin I’m in. I have a dream that one day I’ll be able to be accused not because of what I have not done but because of what I have done. One day I’ll be able to look at myself in the mirror and be comfortable in my skin.

That one day I will be able to not be looked upon as a threat because of my skin or my ethnic background, but because of my actions in my past. I have a dream that one day our education system will be profound enough to uphold the truth. That this system is not based on the moral standards of people or the fact that people want to teach, and help the youth grow as a generation. But, it’s based on the financial foundation of this country. I have a dream that one day the school-to-prison pipeline will no longer exist but be called the classroom-to-career pathway.

To not have better education and teaching because of the amount of money they could give a school. I have a dream that one day we as a nation can look at the mistakes that we have made in the past and build upon them to make us the country everyone sees us as. That we will succeed at protecting what our riots and protests were to represent, freedom, safety, unity, and the true form of freedom of speech. I have a dream that I will wake up and not see the words “Black teen killed by an officer”, “No body camera footage found in the killing of black male/female…”. That one day we will listen to the words of African, African-American, and Indian activists.

Maybe we shall take the words from former South African President and activist Nelson Mandela for he once said “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” By saying this I have a dream that one will not judge another based on the way that the God above made them. I have a dream that one day the youth of this nation and world will wake up without the mental abuse and physical abuse that some may go through every day. To be able to wake up and not wonder if I’ll be the next one to leave this earth.

I have a dream that one day I will not end up kidnapped, beaten, lynched, shot, and killed like the 13-year-old boy Emmett Louis Till just by the way he looked at a woman in 1955.

I have a dream that one day the people of this generation will not think that they have to be rude and hateful towards one another. That one day people will open their eyes and see that just because this person has on this makes their lives less worthful than yours. I have a dream that people of this generation will succeed at making this country the way that people see it as. Strong, independent, and resilient. I have a dream that one day we can wake up and realize the power that we the minority have.

I have a dream that kids will wake up happy. That parents won’t have to teach their sons how to behave while during a traffic stop. I have a dream that we can succeed as a country. That we can thrive perfectly while in crisis. I have a dream.

I have a dream that that we will unite and work together to make America the most wealthiest, technology advanced, and strongest country in the world. These are my dreams. What are yours?
