Brawl Out at Charles H. Flowers
January 27, 2022
January 26th was an eventful day for Flowers High.
The school underwent an incredible number of fights and many played witnesses to the overall violence. A student was arrested and there were a number of incidents, all during and after the schools “D lunch” block.
What are the consequences for the unruliness at Flowers? Well, the administration, and our principal, Dr. Gorman Brown, have implemented a lockdown on hallways with a no-pass-policy for the remainder of the week.
What do you think this means for our environment and the “stripes” of our school?

As an African American Community we have to do better.

The amount of fights the broke out on that day was extremely unordinary

This day was insane, Multiple students engaged in fights, Lot of students injured and one got arrested?! Its just embarrassing to flowers, a whole lot of idiotic Acts. Hopefully this doesn’t occur because i don’t know what dr.brown will do if this happens again.

Crazy week for the books.

I feel like one person started it and it just spread to the rest and everyone thought they had an opportunity to fight and do what they wanted to do.

I doubt a schoolwide no-pass policy is going to help. Administration should take alternative measures to secure student safety and ensure that no fights happen. But a no-pass policy won’t do.
Caine Blake • Jan 31, 2022 at 1:23 PM
I don’t think that fights are necessarily uncommon, or a signification that a school is doing extraordinarily poor, but at the same time it really is a shock that fights had broken out at the scale that they did on the 26th.

To be honest, I don’t really care.. It’s not like I use the school’s dirty bathrooms, but I do think it is unfair for students with bladder issues.

Last week was full of nonsense. Hopefully, as a school we can do better moving forward.

I think that this is all a way that Dr. Brown is trying to uphold the good status of the school, however, I think that the administrators need to find an alternative besides doing a sort of school lockdown.

In results of this incident we have a “no- pass” policy going on. Every action comes with consequences.

The school should put more effort into permament solutions to the problems in school.

Everyone shouldn’t be punished for the actions of certain students, especially when those students are most likely home because of suspension.

It is going to give our school a whole name apart from the mecca of excellence.

This day was very chaotic.

What is a “no-pass policy” going to do?
Desmond Benjamin • Jan 29, 2022 at 10:18 AM
I think the purpose of the “no-pass policy” was to help the school and the school’s admin to contain the number of fights. Yes, there could still be fights during lunch period and within classrooms and also off school grounds but in my eyes, I think that’s what they were trying to do.
Mariah Mullins • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:43 PM
Everything happened so fast 7 fights in the gym.
Jeniya Moore • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:29 PM
Yesterday was absolutely crazy. The fights were continuous, one ended and another one started. The incident yesterday made our school look really bad and out of control
Raegan Travers • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:25 PM
I think that the way the administrator’s decided to handle this is not very effective. They’ve decided to “discipline” the whole school to try to prevent fights from breaking out. It’s pretty pointless and annoying for the rest of us to have to deal with especially since there are still fights going on in other places that aren’t hallways.
sydney-ellis • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:21 PM
Sadly, a lot happened yesterday that caused a lot of damage.
Michael Peters • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:20 PM
Many students felt that since everyone else was fighting that they felt it was the perfect time to fight which is wrong.
Makenzie Roy • Jan 27, 2022 at 1:19 PM
I feel like people are making this seem bigger than it is. Like I think that Gorman’s decision with the no pass policy is just crazy.

I agree , he suspended me for no reason .
Tamya Anderson • Jan 28, 2022 at 8:02 AM
to be suspended for being a minute late is just unprofessional to me.
Kailey Argueta • Jan 28, 2022 at 10:21 PM
I agree, I think they are taking this out of proportion there is no reason students should be suspended.
Sharon Madu • Jan 27, 2022 at 6:57 PM
I agree
Terrence Simmons • Jan 31, 2022 at 8:24 AM
I agree.
