Mayor Kevin Ward died from an apparent suicide on Jan. 25, 2022. Ward was the interim mayor since 2019 before being elected for the position in 2021. Many people sent out their heartfelt messages to Ward’s family, including Anthony Brown, a representative of Maryland’s 4th District. The Representative tweeted, “My heart is with Mayor Ward’s family and the people of Hyattsville after the loss of this dedicated, thoughtful, and fiercely passionate public servant.” We hope that as the community moves forward and continues to grow closer as a result of this tragedy.
