Students at Flowers mourn the loss of a fellow county school’s staff member
January 27, 2022
Tragedy strikes Beltsville, Maryland after dark.
A local teacher was found dead in her classroom Wednesday night around 7:15pm.
57-year-old Cheryl Mitchell, a Social Studies teacher at High Point High School, was described as a go-to body for many students. According to Principal Dr. Lori Taylor, “Ms. Mitchell was invested in the students, making sure all students had a voice to be heard, especially our ESOL population of students.”
An initial investigation, conducted by PGPD, found no signs of foul play and has since ruled Mitchell’s death as being of ‘Natural Causes’.
Once students at Flowers High School, a sister school in the county, were notified of this tragedy, we were riddled with mourning faces, a true testament to the impact Mitchell had even outside of the Beltsville area. We are sending our condolences to the Community of High Point, may Ms. Mitchell ‘Rest in Peace’.

That’s so upsetting that she passed away while in school, I wonder how her students must of felt the next day…

I had a personal feeling to this. My grandfather whom in which used to work for the school system would take me to see her while doing inspection. So this is very unfortunate that PGCPS lost a good teacher.
