Belarus, previously known as White Russia and a country famous for potatoes and tractors. Although one of the poorest countries in Europe, it does not stop them from celebrating one of their most famous traditions; Pancake Week.

Pancake Week in Belarus is one like no other. It is known as Maslenitsa week, where pancakes are rustled up in every home to be enjoyed with friends and served up at local street festivals. In the streets of Belarus, the street vendors don’t shy away from toppings like sweetened ground poppy seeds and hearty mushroom stew, and the list only goes on and on.

If you decide to travel to Belarus, Maslenitsa occurs during February and March. Do not shy away, and try the pancakes with the unique toppings.
