Sadie Alexander was a writer and attorney who lived from 1898 to 1989. She was the first black woman to receive a Phd in economics in the United States. Ms. Alexander was also the first black woman to graduate with a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law school, and the first black woman to practice law in Pennsylvania.

She is such an important figure in black history because not only did she accomplish various feats in the field of law but she also paved the way for others to do the same. Sadie Alexander also has a university named after her called “The Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander University of Pennsylvania Partnership School” in West Philadelphia.

This is someone you wouldn’t hear about much even though she paved a path for black women in a white male dominated career. Having a college named after her is so cool.
