We can thank LYDA D. NEWMAN for our really Durable Hair Brushes. The hairbrush had synthetic bristles and could be taken apart for cleaning! She is the third Black woman to ever receive a patent. Ms. Newman has the patent on the innovation that revolutionized the product.
Ms. Newman was widely known for her activism in the women’s voting rights movement of the early 20th century and was a greatly involved activist for women’s suffrage.

Thanks to MARIE VAN BRITTAN BROWN we have the Home Security System. She invented the video home security system alongside her husband Albert Brown an electronics technician. They applied for a patent for their innovative security system, which was granted in 1969!

This is VALERIE THOMAS. She invented the illusion transmitter which was the first mechanism that allowed images to be viewed in 3D using concave mirrors and rays of light. You could call an illusion transmitter, early 3D technology. Ms. Thomas is currently living here in Maryland and graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland!
