Should Masks be Optional?

During this deadly covid pandemic, students are facing a time in their lives where they must be in a classroom without any windows or air ventilation. Most state governors are soon going to announce that face coverings are soon to be optional for students. But overall, the no mask idea for us as students is a bad idea because in the school setting there are some students that don’t social distance or wear their mask correctly. Sometimes wearing a mask can be a problem because the building is hot and for most of the students they cannot breathe due to health reasons. Overall, each person has different thoughts about wearing masks because some believe that masks should not be worn and some believe that it should because they care about their health.

If we all want to go through this period, then we have to take care of ourselves and others which is why to me, masks should not be optional

This is a great informational article and I think that if masks aren’t required we might as well have the option to go home and work from home.

I feel like mask should not optional, it should be mandatory because people are getting sick quickly and starting to spread even faster. To prevent more people from getting sick everybody should wear their masks at all time.

Oher countries seem to be lifting mandates, and countries who aren´t high on vaccinations don´t have such a high covid rate compared to the U.S who is heavy in mandates and in vaccines. This might mean something…

I heard that in Washington D.C and I believe also in Virginia, masks are optional there in schools. In my opinion, masks should not be optional. People are still getting sick.

I feel like she is correct because it do be hot in the classroom walking around but it is still not safe that people should take the mask off so I feel like government should find a way to invent a way to wear a mask but not at the same time

I think it’s too soon for the students to not wear their mask yet instead I think the safer option would be continue to wear the mask since it would be the safer option.

Wearing a mask should not be optional, and in fact is a horrible idea in my opinion. COVID-19 is running rampant currently, and stopping the mask mandate will only cause infection rates to skyrocket more so than they already have. By keeping yourself safe, wearing a mask and following pandemic mandates, you not only keep yourself safe, but others around you who may be at risk(people with diseases, old people, people with weak immune systems).

I believe that it should not be optional and that everyone should wear a mask, but if a student needs to take a breather I don’t think there is a problem with that at all, they could ask to step out of the classroom or go to a corner and take their make off so they can breathe properly, especially in an area where air is tight and there’s no ventilation as you said.

I feel like there are many things to consider with this ruling. I think that it should be up to individuals to decide whether they want to wear their own mask because that’s honestly how things are now. People are going to do what they want regardless.

I feel that masks shouldn´t be optional because it is still a big risk to take on and it wouldn´t just affect that person, it could affect everyone.

I don’t think masks should be optional. There’s little to no social distancing in schools and the classrooms and hallways are always filled to the brim with students leaving no space for them to social distance themselves which would put those without a mask at risk at getting covid.
