What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is a holy month Muslims look forward to. It is the ninth month of the Muslim Calendar. The beginning and end of this month depends on the spotting of the crescent moon. Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during this month. Which means No Eating, Drinking, Swearing…etc. We wake up before sunrise to have a meal before we start fasting. It is called Suhoor. Others call it differently depending on their language. The dinner we have after we break our fast (usually with a date , fruits or water) is called iftar.

Why do Muslims Fast?

It helps Muslims become close to Allah(God) , make good habits , teach restraint, empathy for the less fortunate and many more. I enjoy Ramadan because I also develop good habits and find myself even more grateful for what I have. It is a very beautiful time , My family has a tradition of making different foods every night.  The time I spend with family and friends feasting after a long day of fasting is the best. After Ramadan comes Eid-Al-Fitr ( Festival of Breaking Fast), which is a Muslim Holiday that celebrates the end of Ramadan.
