Kingdom of Belgium

Belgium, a country situated in Northwestern Europe also one of the smallest and most densely populated countries in Europe. This was a country occupied by Germans during WW1 and WW2, after its independence from the Netherlands’ reign it was divided into 10 provinces with each province having a capital and Brussels being the capital of Belgium. This is a country where its citizens speak French, Dutch, and a little bit of German

The Belgians are known for having great inventors in its history such as Belgian professor Edward J. de smith who invented modern road asphalt in 1870 at Columbia University in New York City naming it ‘sheet asphalt pavement’. Another great Belgian mind is Robert Cailliau who is a Belgian engineer and scientist who is well known for his proposal which was later developed with Tim Berners Lee and eventually led to what we now call the World Wide Web

One of the most gifted minds in Belgian history so far was Georges Lemaitre a Catholic Priest, Theoretical physicist( a scientist who uses mathematics, calculations, chemistry, biology, and a series of other theories to understand the complex workings of the universe and the interactions between matter and energy),  mathematician, astronomer and professor of physics at the Catholic University of Louvain. Belgium also has a famed music inventor named Adolphe Sax, he was a Belgian instrument maker who in 1840 invented the saxophone.

Georges Lemaitre was the professor of physics who proposed the Big Bang theory which tells us about the origin of the universe.  Antwerp, Belgium’s second-largest city is the Diamond capital of the world. More than half of the diamonds sold around the world pass through this sparkling city which also has the second biggest port in Europe

Belgium is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with the world’s greatest number of castles per square meter and the oldest shopping arcade in the world. If you do visit Belgium make a stop in downtown Brussels the Galeries St Hubert is worth a visit, it is one of the cheapest countries to get around on public transport.
