ABPA Harrington/Arthur Memorial Scholarship

Fiance Yates, Staff Writer

The ABPA Harrington-Arthur Memorial Scholarship Essay Competition was established to reward students that seek to increase their knowledge and understanding of how Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention help ensure safe drinking water. Backflow Prevention is designed to prevent dangerous – and sometimes fatal – bacteria, chemicals and other harmful agents from entering the local water supply systems. Backflow Prevention programs are essential to ensure that the water that reaches your home, school or place of business is as safe and pure as it was when it left the water treatment plant.
The ABPA’s focus is to have a public educated in the value and need for active local backflow prevention programs. Our goal is safe drinking water through cross-connection control. The organization works to build a greater public awareness of backflow prevention as one component of safe drinking water.
The essay topic is: Backflow prevention and cross-connection control not only protect the drinking water in day to day applications, but they can also be a protection against terrorist acts.  Tell the public what backflow hazards you would suggest for them to be aware of and how to protect the safe drinking water through backflow prevention in your community.
Each individual student who applies (“Applicant”) to this scholarship contest (“Contest”) shall write an essay of 700-1200 words and submit it, along with a completed and signed application form, to [email protected] or by uploading it to the ABPA website at http://www.abpa.org/?page=Scholarship.
