Flowers High School senior Angela Chin has been named one of the Coca-Cola Scholars for 2016. She was one of three regional finalists for the state of Maryland and the only student selected from Prince George’s County.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship provides $20,000 to each of its 150 finalists. The award is distributed in increments of $5,000 per year, over four years. The scholarship can also be used towards study abroad or graduate school if the student chooses.
She advises her peers to apply early to as many scholarships as you can.
“Scholarships and colleges want to find out who you are, it’s not all about the statistics. Whatever you’re interested in, find an activity to get involved in. If you can’t find one, make one. The more you fill out, the better chance you have at receiving one. There’s a scholarship out there for everyone,” she said.
Angela Chin currently has a 4.75 GPA. Some of her extracurricular activities include holding the position of president of CHFHS’ Student Government Association, being a member of the National Honor Society and serving as an intern in the Science and Technology program.
So far Angela has been accepted to The University of Maryland College- Park, The University of Pittsburgh , North Carolina A&T State University, and Rutgers University. She plans on majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering and minoring in International Affairs.
The application for the Coca-Cola Scholarship closes each year on October 31. According to the Coca-Cola Scholars website, http://www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org/applicants/#programs, the scholarship application will reopen in August 2016 for applications from the Class of 2017. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA by the end of their junior year.
