Manhood 101 is a youth African American program for the young men in the community. Manhood 101 is held every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30.
The purpose of manhood is to educate the young males in the community about what being a man in america is, and also proper etiquette and the best way to carry yourself. This is the 5th year of Manhood at Charles Herbert Flowers and the program is founded by Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.(Lgg).
Members were asked a couple questions, What grade are you in? How many years have you been here? What have you gotten out of manhood, or what you plan to get out of it?
- Jalen Lee:”I am in the 11th grade, I’ve been in the program for 3 years now. I have learned how to carry yourself as a man and how to respect others. Also I learned the way you are perceived is by the way you dress and carry yourself.”
- Camron White: “I am in the 12th grade. This is now my fourth year in the program, and I am the president of manhood 101. I’ve gotten knowledge, integrity, and independence. Also I learn that in america, us as young african males we are targeted because the way we look. So the way you carry yourself is the way you will be treated.”
The principal of the school was asked, what is one thing you would like to say to the people who did not attend?
- “If your focus is on becoming a leader in your community, manhood is essential to your future.”
