A few of those storms could become strong to severe, with damaging winds and torrential downpours standing out as the primary hazards statewide. Another round of storms is possible late tonight into early tomorrow morning along an advancing cold front.
Slight Risk Zone Covers Indianapolis, Seymour, and Evansville Southward
The Slight risk area, rated 2 out of 5, stretches across the southern half of the state and includes Indianapolis, Seymour, and Evansville. This zone carries the best chance for scattered severe storms today.
Within the Slight risk area, damaging winds are considered possible, along with the potential for an isolated spin-up tornado and localized flash flooding as storms move through this afternoon and evening.
Marginal Risk Extends North Through Lafayette, Fort Wayne, and Gary
A Marginal risk, rated 1 out of 5, covers the northern portion of the state, including Lafayette, Fort Wayne, Gary, and South Bend. This zone carries a lower overall severe threat than the Slight risk area to the south.
Damaging winds, an isolated spin-up tornado, and flash flooding remain possible within the Marginal risk zone as well, though coverage of severe storms is expected to be more limited.
Second Round of Storms Possible Overnight Along Advancing Cold Front
Beyond this afternoon’s activity, forecasters are tracking the potential for an additional round of storms late tonight into early Monday morning as a cold front pushes through the region.
This overnight round could bring renewed potential for damaging winds and heavy downpours across parts of Indiana already affected by the daytime storms.
